Sherwood Forest Elementary

What is Special About Our School?

Sherwood Forest Elementary, built in 1991, is located in the southwest corner of Federal Way near the Tacoma/Pierce County border. School staff, parents, PTA, and community members work in partnership to support the success of all students in an atmosphere that encourages high academic standards, and respectful, responsible, and cooperative behaviors.

The first and most important goal at this school is to support all students in their endeavor to develop strong reading and math skills. Well-trained teachers use the best instructional practices, in combination with family support, to help students achieve their goals.

Sherwood Forest’s vision is to create a safe, positive and supportive school environment. Children are encouraged to reach their full potential as self-directed learners at home, at school, and in their community.

Teachers and educators at Sherwood Forest use the ENVoY non-verbal behavior management system in all classroom and program areas including the playground and lunchroom. “Kelso’s Choices” for safe problem solving are also used school wide.

In addition to our strong content focus on reading, writing, and math, Sherwood Forest offers other areas of enrichment including dynamic General Music and Health and Fitness programs.  Our PTA sponsors a school-wide Accelerated Reader Program, Book Fairs, Assemblies, and Family Nights and invites participation of all students in the annual Science Fair.

We appreciate our many volunteers, including the many dads who participate in the nationwide “Watch D.O.G.S. Program” at our school. (Dad’s of Great Students)

No Child Left Behind Report Card

The No Child Left Behind Act requires all schools and school districts in the United States to prepare annual reports for parents and the public detailing their academic achievement. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s web site makes this information available on-line. Find your school’s report card on-line at http://reportcard.ospi.k12.wa.us/, Click on Federal Way in the “Summary” box, then choose your school from the list. You may also request a paper copy of the report card at your school’s office. For more information about the NCLB Act, go to http://www.nclb.gov/index.html.
