What is Special About Our School?
This year Lakeland begins its 58th year of “building the future.” This school is proud of its history and its tradition of quality education delivered by a dedicated and professional staff and supported by an active community. We are very fortunate to have a new school being constructed. Our move in date is set for August 2011.
Lakeland’s enthusiastic spirit is felt as soon as you enter its doors. This is a child-centered environment where student needs are given the highest priority. Students are encouraged to grow in all subject areas, and each child is given the help he or she needs to be successful.
Lakeland holds classes for 360 Kindergarten through 5th grade students. Many of our students speak languages other than English and represent a multitude of cultures from around the world.
The first and most important goal that we pursue is helping all students develop strong reading, math, and writing skills. Well-trained teachers and para-educators, mixed with parental support, keep students moving toward this goal.
In addition to Lakeland’s focus on the “basics,” we encourage other areas of enrichment. The school offers a science fair, student clubs, participation in the annual PTA “Reflections” contest, and a self-manager program. Extended Learning Opportunities and many other programs and special events are available for students and their families.
No Child Left Behind Report Card
The No Child Left Behind Act requires all schools and school districts in the United States to prepare annual reports for parents and the public detailing their academic achievement. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s web site makes this information available on-line. Find your school’s report card on-line at http://reportcard.ospi.k12.wa.us/, Click on Federal Way in the “Summary” box, and then choose your school from the list. You may also request a paper copy of the report card at your school’s office. For more information about the NCLB Act, go to http://www.nclb.gov/index.html.

How Are We Using Our Financial Resources?
|
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lakeland’s funds are used to enhance student curriculum and student programs. Most of the money is used for teaching supplies, materials, equipment, and photocopying for student lessons. ASB funds are used for self-esteem assemblies, field trips, and behavior incentive awards.
How Are Our Students Doing on Required Tests?
Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) & Measure of Student Progress (MSP)
Beginning in spring of 2006, the state of Washington requires that the WASL be given at sixth grade.
Beginning in the spring of 2010, the state of Washington requires that the MSP be given in third through eighth grade. The MSP replaces the WASL.
