Lakeland Elementary open date rescheduled to September 7th – Kindergarten and preschool orientation still to be held September 6
Lakeland Elementary School will start the 2011-2012 school year in a brand new building on Wednesday September 7th, two days after Labor Day.
While construction is moving along quickly and the contractor has pulled out all the stops to have the building ready for staff and students, the additional day will allow staff ample time to prepare their classrooms for the start of the school year. Plans to make up the three-day delay will be announced later in the school year.
Lakeland’s preschool and Kindergarten students will still attend orientation with their parents on the Tuesday, September 6, and will begin classes with the rest of the student body on Wednesday, September 7.
For the next few weeks of school, Lakeland’s grounds will still be considered a construction zone. One of the main roads adjacent to the school, 32nd Avenue South, will be closed to through traffic off and on as work continues.
The district is taking special care to ensure students arrive and depart from school safely. Instructions for dropping off and picking up students at the school, and for students who walk to school, will be sent to all Lakeland households prior to the start of the school year.
