Todd Beamer to Display World Trade Center Beam at 9-11 Event
Todd Beamer High School will host an event Sept. 9 for students and community members in memory of the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11.
South King Fire and Rescue will display a steel beam from the World Trade Center at the event. The beam will eventually become part of a 9-11 memorial at Fire Station 64 in Auburn.
The Todd Beamer event will include patriotic music and a combined color guard with Todd Beamer AFJROTC, South King Fire and Rescue and the Federal Way Police Department. The National Anthem will be performed by a Todd Beamer student, accompanied by the band.
A speaker will outline the events of 9-11, particularly Flight 93 and the role of Todd Beamer. Todd Beamer was one of the passengers aboard Flight 93 and is recognized as a hero after helping to thwart the plane’s hijackers.
Todd Beamer High School principal Randy Kaczor will accept a 9-11 10th Anniversary Memorial Flag for the school. The stripes on the flag are made with the names of the people who lost their lives in 9-11. Major Barry Jones, the AFJROTC advisor at Todd Beamer, said he hopes the flag will become part of a display at the school that will also include a soil sample from the field in Pennsylvania where Flight 93 crashed.
As the event concludes, students will gather and hold large cards with the words “We will always remember,” for a photo. The photo will be displayed at the school.
