Chris Mosley

Nationally Board Certified Radiologist and Nuclear Medicine Physician

Federal Way High School
Graduate, Class of 1993

Chris Mosley has a career that would make any parent proud - he's a doctor. And Mosley's mother, FWPS librarian Madelyn Grayson, is certainly proud.

Mosley, a 1993 Federal Way High School graduate, is now working in St. Louis, Missouri as a Nationally Board Certified Radiologist and Nuclear Medicine Physician.

A radiologist is a physician who specializes in obtaining and interpreting medical images including those obtained using x-rays, radioactive substances, ultrasound or MRI. Radiologists also treat diseases by means of radiation or minimally invasive, image-guided surgery.

A nuclear medicine physician uses radiopharmaceuticals to diagnose, treat and research a variety of diseases. The most common diagnostic uses of nuclear medicine include early detection of coronary artery disease, cancer diagnosis and staging and evaluating of the effect of cancer treatment. Sometimes nuclear medicine physicians use radioactive molecules to treat cancer or relieve the pain caused by cancer that has spread to the bone.

In addition to Federal Way High School, Mosley attended Nautilus Elementary and Sacajawea Middle schools. "I was fortunate to have many excellent academic experiences in the Federal Way Public Schools and was pleased to find when entering college that my education in the Federal Way Schools had me very prepared," he said.

After high school, Mosley went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Washington State University in 1998 and a Doctor of Medicine from St. Louis University in 2002. He also completed a Nuclear Medicine Fellowship at John Hopkins University.

He's certainly had a lot of teachers in his lifetime, but among those he remembers best is his second grade teacher at Nautilus. "Thinking back on all of my teachers it seems almost impossible to single out a particular teacher who had the most impact on me, however, I will make note of one of the first teachers I remember with great fondness and that is my second grade teacher, Mrs. Rosalie Clavey."

An athlete throughout his school years, Mosley participated in track and field from elementary school to high school. He noted that the sport was tremendously important to him and gave him memories he will carry with him throughout life.
