Angela Donohue

Angela Donohue (Pak)

Marketing Manager, Microsoft

Federal Way High School
Graduate, Class of 2001

Angela Donohue studied math, science, history and social studies, among other subjects in high school. But perhaps the most important thing she learned wasn’t part of the regular curriculum. She learned the skill of time management.

“I think because I took many of the Advanced Placement courses that were offered at the school, and tried to immerse myself in after school activities, high school was the first time I juggled trying to fit in schoolwork and being involved in organizations. It was a great learning experience managing time and resources,” Donohue said.

Donohue, a 2001 graduate of Federal Way High School, now serves as a marketing manager for Microsoft. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Business Administration, both from the University of Washington.

“Marketing was a natural interest for me and it complemented well with my skill set,” Donohue said. “I love working with people and creating programs and promotions to drive awareness and acquisition. I like working with consumer facing products as well.”

Extracurricular activities were an important component of her education, Donohue said. “I really tried to be a well-rounded student to prepare me for college. From hiking club, to math team, to community service, and playing on the girls’ golf team, I really tried to take advantage of all the organizations and resources to get involved with the school,” she said. “I think organizations that tried to mimic real world scenarios, like competitions in FBLA, really helped expose me to challenges in working with others and pressures of creating a solution and presenting that to judges in a high pressure setting.”

For current students, Donohue offers the following advice: “I think the best thing you could do is to get involved with sports, clubs, or any other school activities. It is a great way to meet people and flush out your resume for college or a job. Also, study for your SATs. Plan early. Colleges are very competitive so make sure you are doing everything you can to make yourself a good candidate.”
