Title I Public School Choice and Supplementary Education Services

Public School Choice under No Child Left Behind

Under the requirements of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2002, schools are required to make a certain level of improvement in their test scores each year. If schools do not make adequate yearly progress (AYP) in any one category for two year in a row, the school is said to be in Step 1 of improvement.

In Step 1, Title I  schools are required to offer parents the option of transferring their child to another school in the district that is making AYP with transportation provided by the district. The district will provide transportation to one of two other schools in the district that are meeting AYP.

Prior to the 2010-2011 school year, no students in Federal Way Public Schools were eligible for Public School Choice services.
